New big things

The Koi Quilt…. it's been awhile coming but at last I got it done, and then it went to the quilters to be machine quilter. We talked about what would look good on this one and came up with several ideas, one of them being lilly pads and for the corners sponge coral.
Then I left it in her hands. I brought it home a couple of days ago and finished the binding. I love this quilt!

Each of the bands have quilting, and the center {while it's hard to see} the fish look like they are jumping off the quilt as they are puffed up from the loft of the batting. They look like the real koi I have out in the pond.

It's bright and vibrant and I'm so glad I have a really good machine quilter to complement my work. Without her it wouldn't look the same, and I'd never get it finished, as I can't do hand quilting anymore. So what do you think?

New little things

It's spring and I am ready to try something new. So I joined a lovely little group that make small doll sized quilts, and do a monthly swap with one partner. May is my first one, and I have it done, so here is a sneak peek.

The Flannel Quilt

I have pieced a new quilt top and this one is all flannel, which I really like the feel of, and weight. I have never done a quilt in flannel so this was a first. I love it, the color, the pattern, and I can't wait to get it quilted so I can use it. This was the easiest one I've made so far.

It's in the Stars!

A few years ago, I made a quilt that I really loved. It was the one and only one I ever could hand quilt, as it was just to much back pain for me to endure. So, it was special, in many ways. It was called a Texas Star {or it's also called a Blazing Star.} I did it in red, white and blue prints with yellow centers. It turned out to be very striking.
 However it was lost sometime ago my unfortunate circumstances . I have made several quilts sense then, but in the back of my mind, was that Texas Star quilt.
  I never thought I'd ever get to make another one, but I have, and so... you can see stars.

Red white and blue ones, with yellow centers. These are different print fabrics, of course, and I used more colored plain squares then I did in the other one, but I love these Jubilee Garden fabrics. As soon as I saw them I knew they were the ones for my Texas Star quilt.

A Secret Keeper

Just one of those things one plays with for fun. She has been stuck in a box for a few years. I thought it was time to finish her off, and then let her go and wander around the yard looking for her own little place to hide away. lol.
At least she won't ever tell my secrets. lol.

A Rose garden quilt

At long last I have managed to get this quilt top done. It's in one piece and ready to go to the quilters to be machine quilted. The fabric for this one sat in a box for several years, with the good intentions of getting done tomorrow. Well Tomorrow came and now after hours of work  I can show you what I've been putting off for so long. I had to do some switching around of sewing machines, so I could do the satin stitches on each pieced and appliqued square, but it's done. I think it was really worth it.
  It's a little hard to picture the full size, as it will drape nicely over the edges of the bed. I will also finish two pillow shams to match.
I'm sooo glad that's done!

Silver Bells gown

The gown created for the 22"BJD for her sleigh ride.

It all starts with a color scheme, and a sleigh ride in the cold wintery snow needed warm clothing, a fur throw to cover up with and pillows to make ones' self comfy.

Here is her chemise,petticoat,corset and pantaloons, in cream with little red/pink roses accent.

Sleeveless blouse with antique gold buttons, over green, ruffled floor length  skirt.
Every gown needs a hat or bonnet, and here is the once created for this set.

The beautiful red velveteen coat. Simplicity lines, tiny gold buttons, and a touch of lace at sleeves.

The undergarments- camisole, corset,petticoat, pantaloons, and corset enhancer.

  A really nice hand of created garments./and underclothes.

Perfect for16 to 1800's designs.
